I appreciate your grounding me in the reality of investing for retired people, like me. I am wanting my retirement fund to grow over time via investments in stocks, and the longer this goes on, the better, as I am using the proceeds to live on. Tamping down on buybacks could only help, but meanwhile, my retired lifestyle depends on the long term growth in the value of stocks, which depends on the long term success of the companies that issue the stocks.
